W.A. Mozart wrote his five violin concertos between April and December 1775. He was 19 years old.
When I discovered them for myself and played them all, I realised how unhappy I was with the cadenzas by other performers so I composed my own.
Usually I compose quickly, but sometimes there are some changes and inserts to be made!
I think it is so much more enjoyable playing Concertos with the cadenzas of your own. Mozart must have known this! I am grateful he has left those spaces in his music for the performer to improvise and enjoy playing his music even more.
My inspiration for composing music comes from her tranquil countryside environment. I often write my musical ideas on a scrap of paper, which materialise in the more formal composition later on. I consider myself to be a romantic composer, creating music in a traditional manner, by playing it on the violin or piano first and then transferring ideas to paper.
My recent work is a Ukrainian Concerto for the violin. The second slow movement is my favourite. I am determined to continue my creative work in 2024.
